🔧 Stuff I’ve Fixed at Weddings That Had Nothing to Do with Music

Because being a wedding DJ means fixing way more than bad playlists.

Thank you for reading this post, I look forward to hearing from you soon!  :-)

Sure, I’m hired to bring the beats, read the room, and keep the dance floor from turning into a sad game of musical chairs. But what most people don’t know is that DJs are also unofficial problem-solvers, timeline therapists, and occasional wardrobe surgeons.

Over the years, I’ve done way more than spin tracks. I’ve patched holes, saved ceremonies, and MacGyver’d solutions using zip ties and blind optimism.

Here’s a look at just a few things I’ve fixed at weddings that had nothing to do with music—but definitely saved the day.

Stuff I’ve Fixed at Weddings That Had Nothing to Do with Music - DJ Rock My World

🧵 1. I Safety-Pinned a Bridesmaid Into Her Dress Mid-Cocktail Hour

She turned to hug someone and—POP—her zipper exploded with the force of a confetti cannon. There was panic. There was screaming. There was someone yelling “Does anyone know how to sew?”

I don’t. But I do travel with an emergency kit full of safety pins, fashion tape, and pure determination.

Result: Zipped, pinned, and hidden better than a bad ex on social media.

🥾 2. I Repaired a Broken Heel Using Gaffer Tape and Hope

The bride’s heel snapped as she was walking to her first dance. Her eyes said “I want to cry,” but her mouth said, “Can you fix it?”

I grabbed my gaffer tape, used the DJ table for leverage, and constructed a structural miracle that held up for the next four hours of dancing.

Bonus: She called it her “Cinderella moment—if Cinderella was sponsored by Home Depot.”

🔌 3. I Tracked Down a Missing Extension Cord That Was Powering the Caterer’s Entire Setup

The venue “had everything.” Except electricity in the back corner where the caterers were prepping. Mid-salmon plating, everything died.

Guess who had three extra extension cords, a surge protector, and a background in crisis management?

Me. The DJ. Also now, apparently, a power grid engineer.

🕯️ 4. I Re-Lit 37 Table Candles That Mysteriously All Went Out at Once

Either it was a breeze… or a ghost. But midway through dinner, all the reception candles gave up on life.

I took my phone flashlight, a borrowed lighter, and my best “I got this” face and lit those bad boys table by table like a wedding vigilante.

Guests clapped. One whispered, “He’s more than a DJ… he’s a vibe technician.”

💍 5. I Found the Ring (Yes, The Ring)

The best man had one job.
Then he had zero idea where he put the ring. Cue panic.

While everyone searched the suite and blamed the flower girl, I casually checked the groom’s jacket pocket—because I saw the best man borrow it earlier.

Boom. Ring recovered. Crisis averted. Groom still blissfully unaware he almost got married with a vending machine token.

🍰 6. I Saved the Cake from Melting into a Sugary Puddle

It was an outdoor summer wedding. The cake was tall, frosted, and slowly leaning like a sugar-filled Leaning Tower of Pisa.

I noticed. I notified the planner. I helped relocate the cake to a shaded, fan-cooled table. And when it was time to cut, it still looked perfect.

What’s sweeter than saving dessert? Literally nothing.

🎤 7. I Convinced a Drunk Uncle Not to Give a “Bonus Toast”

He approached the mic. Wobbly. Emotional. Armed with a story no one asked for and a half-full solo cup.

I gently intercepted. “Hey man, the mic’s overheating—we’re letting it cool down for a minute.”

He nodded solemnly and wandered off. The crowd cheered for the DJ “taking song requests.” They’ll never know the speech that wasn’t. And that’s for the best.

🚽 8. I Helped a Kid Who Got Locked in the Venue Bathroom

Little ring bearer went rogue. Door lock was jammed. Panic ensued.

I set my playlist to auto-mix, found a staff member with a key, and talked to him through the door like I was in a hostage negotiation.

Five minutes later, he was free. He gave me a high five and said, “You’re better than Spider-Man.”

Honestly, I peaked that day.

🎧 Final Thought: DJs Do More Than Play Music—We Put Out Fires (Sometimes Literally)

At DJ Rock My World, I come prepared with:

  • Backup mics

  • Backup playlists

  • Backup plans

  • And yes… sometimes backup fashion tape

Because the truth is, weddings are organized chaos—and I don’t just manage the music. I help keep everything running behind the scenes, whether that means fixing the vibe or physically holding up a floral arch until it stops leaning.
